======== Newsgroups: alt.fan.sailor-moon Subject: [GAME] Sailor Moon SuperS fighting game -- a review From: Cernovog Date: Tue, 10 Jun 1997 22:41:36 -0400 There's been some discussion on Sailor Moon games lately so I thought I'd whip out a review of the Sailor Moon Super S fighting game which I recently got the opportunity to play. At a recent meeting of the Buffalo Area Sailor Moon Club, Otaku no Tsuki, a member, Scott , brought in his Saturn and the Sailor Moon Super S game. We had a lot of fun beating each other up. The characters You had your choice of all 10 senshi. Artemis, Diana and Tuxedo Kamen were not playable characters, but their voices served as referees. Pegasus made a cameo (more on that later). No villains. Attacks Each character had two wimpy attacks and one Super attack that would usuallly finish off your opponent. There are pictures of the players at the upper corners of the screen. When your character's broach flashes, you can use your Super move. The Game The game was played like Street Fighter. It had progress bars on top monitoring each player's health. There were punches, blocks, kicks and throws. Special key combinations were required for special attacks. The first character to win two out of three rounds wins. Characters in detail Sailor Mercury: IMHO, the worst character to play. She was just too dainty! I hated the way she danced acrossed the screen and the dainty way she punched. Here attacks were: Mercury Bubbles Blast -- pretty cool Shine Aqua Illusion -- also cool Mercury Aqua Rhapsody was her Super move. It was a good move but it wasn't as awe inspiring as the other characters Super moves When Mercury wins she says "Gomen ne sai!" That was the last straw for me. She apologized for beating her opponent! Too polite for a fighting game. Sailor Mars: A very good, well rounded and fairly powerful character to play. Her attacks include: Fire Soul -- a column of fire would shoot across the screen. It was fairly difficult to jump over it and I don't remember if you could duck it. Burning Mandala -- The best attack. A flaming shield would defend Mars from your counter attack and the Mandala practically filled the screen. You had to time your jump just right to avoid it. It hits almost every time. Mars Flame Sniper -- decent finishing move, but the anime version is more dramatic, IMO Sailor Jupiter: We didn't play her. We played against her with the computer controlling her. Her attacks include: Supreme Thunder -- a good move, but it was easy to jump and it took a few seconds to get off Sparkling Wide Hot Pressure -- Faster, but easier to jump Oak Evolution -- one of the coolest, most dramatic moves of the game. It was an honor to get your butt kicked with that move. :) Sailor Venus A decent character to play with some unconventional attacks: Crescent Beam -- a fast and powerful move. An effective attack Venus Love Link Chain (or whatever it's called) -- not like the anime. She used the chain like a whip. The way in which it was used made it a versatile attack and effective in mid-air. Love and Beauty Shock -- I don't remember. I think we only got it off once. Sailor Moon As you would expect, one of the better characters. :) One of the neat things is the way Usagi's characture in the upper corner would wail when you hit her. :) She was Super Sailor Moon throughout the whole game. Her attacks were: Moon Tiara Action -- a fast and simple attack. Not visually impressive. Moon Spiral Heart Attack -- a good move, but it took forever to get off and she often got hit in mid attack. When you do get it off, a giant heart go sailing across the screen and it almost never misses. Moon Gorgeous Meditation -- very cool attack. The screen would freeze and change color. Similar to the anime attack. One of the better finishing moves. Sailor Chibi Moon Believe it or not, my absolute favorite character to play! Her attacks: Luna P attack: She throws the Luna P at you! Kawaii! Pink Sugar Heart Attack: Just like the anime! When you block it, the little hearts just bounce off. :) Finally, Chibi-Moon had the best finishing move of them all. I was wondering what it was thinking, "What other attacks does she have?" When I finally got it off, the screen changed to a familiar patter and Chibi-Moon said "Twinkle yell..." Uh-oh. She got down on her knees and then Pegasus appeared and kicked my opponent's ass!!! It was hillarious! By far the most effective and most amusing finishing move. One time Scott ran all over the screen yelling "Get away! Get away!" but Pegasus just hunted him down and kicked his butt! :D Chibi-Moon also has an amusing throw. Instead of throwing, she jumps up on you and slaps your face repeatedly! Very funny! :D I'm tired of typing so I'll leave the Outer Senshi for later, or maybe I'll let Scott write that part since I don't really remember all their attacks. If you live in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area, I invite you to join us at our next meeting! Scott has promised to bring the game again! We're going to watch 3 episodes (subtitled) and then spend the remainder of the time playing the game. E-mail Sandy for more info on how to join the club and when the next meeting is.
